Women take only 5% of CEO positions
Only 5% of chief executives of the world’s 2,500 largest companies are women, according to a new report by Strategy&. These recent findings also revealed that 38% of female CEOs who left their jobs were forced to leave, compared to only 27% of male CEOs who left their jobs.
The report suggests that compounding factors could be working against women, including the proportion of female CEOs who are hired from outside the company.
Nevertheless, the research retains a glimmer of optimism. Over the past ten years, the balance of incoming vs outgoing female CEOs has risen significantly, and Strategy& predicts that women will make up around a third of incoming CEOs by 2040.
