Germany passes legal quotas for women on non-executive boards
Companies in Germany will be required to allocate 30% of seats on non-executive boards to women, under new draft law.
Among Germany’s 30 largest companies, women currently only take up 22% of supervisory board seats and 6% of executive board seats. Family minister Manuela Schwesig said: “We are globally at the tail end when it comes to women’s quotas. We cannot afford to waste this talent”.
The new legislation will be phased in to over 100 companies from 2016, and around 3,500 more firms will need to set goals to include more women in top management posts by 2015.
