About the Book:
The new book “Labour Markets in Low-Income Countries: Challenges and Opportunities” by David Lam and Ahmed Elsayed addresses some of the most important issues affecting labour markets in low-income countries. The book builds heavily on new research evidence that has been provided by the programme on Growth and Labour Markets in Low-Income Countries (GLM|LIC), which was created as a partnership between the UK Department for International Development (now part of the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office) and the German IZA – Institute of Labor Economics in 2011. The programme has contributed to the growing interest in understanding labour markets in the poorest countries by producing high-quality research outputs and policy documents, as well as through interactions with various stakeholders and impacts on programmes and policies.

It is our mission to broadly disseminate new research findings and policy recommendations in the field - hence the book is available in print and in digital open-access. All chapters may be viewed, searched in, downloaded, and forwarded free of charge from the publisher’s website (under Creative Commons license CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 for non-commercial use). We take the opportunity to once more express our gratitude to all G²LM|LIC investigators. The book heavily draws on their insights and expertise.
